Overview

Gsteig is the highest village in the Saane Valley. This mountain village near Gstaad lies at the western tip of Canton Bern at the foot of two passes: the Col de Pillon to Les Diablerets in Canton Vaud and the Sanetsch to Canton Valais.

 

The Sanetsch Pass is the route of a hike through pretty scenery to the Sanetsch reservoir. The Sanetsch waterfall can be admired en route, and the cables of the Gsteig-Sanetsch cableway stretch high above the waterfall.

Summer

Various widely spread hamlets and the small village of Feutersoey also belong to the municipality of Gsteig. The Tschärzis-Tal with its idyllic small mountain lake, the Arnensee, branches off the main valley at Feutersoey. The Arnensee is a popular excursion and hiking destination.

The Sanetsch Pass is served by a daily postbus route from Canton Valais. This ample yet rugged mountain landscape with reservoir is a popular climbing area with several easier climbs.

Winter

Gsteig is situated near the imposing Diablerets Massif. The valley terminus at Col du Pillon has a cableway transporting skiers up to snow-guaranteed altitudes of almost 3000 metres. Winter-sports facilities are open from October to the beginning of May.

 

No fewer than 24 peaks of 4000 metres and higher are visible from the glacier. The glacier has a winter hiking trail, cross-country ski runs and, at the beginning of the season, a snowboard and freestyle park.

There are plenty of activities all year round and Hotel Krone is the perfect base to explore the area.

Winter Sports

The ski resort Heiti – Gsteig bei Gstaad is located in Gstaad (Switzerland, Espace Mittelland, Bern, Bernese Oberland).

 

For skiing and snowboarding, there are 1.3 km of slopes available. 1 lift transports the guests. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,227 and 1,370 m. Despite its exclusive reputation, an attractive, traditional village where anyone could have a relaxing holiday. This is a superb area for intermediates, with long, easy descents in the major area.

Walking

Many hikers and walkers start there journey from Gsteig near Gstaad along old mule trails over the Col du Sanetsch – a historic pass into Valais. Enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the Valais Alps and the glacier world of Les Diablerets.

Hike along the Wispile mountain ridge and enjoy the great view over the Saanenland with sight to our high peaks.

The walks from Gsteig to Gstaad is one of the most popular in the area.

Cycling

As an alternative, visitors can opt for scooter-based fun: riders can choose between two routes on which to coast down from the mountain into the valley on scooters with specially-equipped brakes. Several bicycle and mountain bike routes round off the summer route options.

An easy e-bike tour mostly on narrow asphalt roads leads from Gsteig to Saanen via Gstaad and Feutersoey. In between there are views to the main Alpine summits. Ride back on the same route or take the bus.
